Opal Body Tone N1–N9

Body tone

Body tone describes the relative lightness or darkness of an opal’s base color, viewed face-up without its play of color. N stands for Neutral.

The scale

N1–N4: black opal. N5–N6: dark opal. N7–N9: light opal.

Tone and value

Darker body tones can increase value when other qualities are equal. Body tone alone does not determine an opal’s value.

Crystal opal

Crystal opal can also have a dark or light body tone.

This on-screen scale is an approximate visual guide, not a physical grading standard. Display brightness and lighting affect its appearance.

We film our opals with an iPhone under a desk lamp. We do not use macro lenses or enhance the footage.

We source our Australian opal rough directly from the Australian outback and cut it in our own workshop.

Prices reflect the quality of each opal and are non-negotiable.

Shipping fees are shown in USD, before any applicable tax. For services with a fixed shipping fee, free shipping and order limits are based on your item subtotal before coupon discounts, shipping and tax. Enter your delivery address at checkout to see the available options.

    Free for item subtotals over $200. Available for item subtotals of $1,000 or less.

We aim to dispatch available items within 2 business days of confirmed payment. Custom jewelry follows its separately agreed production schedule.

Available shipping methods and any carrier coverage depend on the selected service and destination. Contact MyOpal if you need help confirming shipping coverage for a specific order.

You are responsible for customs fees and charges. If an item is returned because of customs issues, you are also responsible for both outbound and return shipping costs.

7-day returns

Eligible purchases may be returned within 7 days of receiving the item. Contact MyOpal for instructions before returning an item.

Return eligibility

Return the item in its original condition, together with its original packaging, certificates and everything else supplied with it. We inspect all returns before approving a refund.

Items not eligible for change-of-mind returns

We do not accept change-of-mind returns of opal rough or rubs, or custom-made jewelry. Requests made more than 7 days after receiving the item are also ineligible. This does not limit remedies for faulty or misdescribed goods under applicable law.

Return shipping and customs

For change-of-mind returns, return shipping and applicable customs duties are normally your responsibility. Original shipping charges and applicable costs may be excluded from the refund where permitted by law. We will explain relevant costs when confirming the return.

Please contact us before returning an item that is faulty, damaged or incorrect. We will confirm the appropriate remedy and shipping arrangements based on the circumstances and your applicable rights.

Refunds

We process refunds to your original payment method within 7 business days of approval. Your payment provider may take longer to make the funds available.
